"Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend...." Exodus 33:11

What are you reading?

Well, we haven't been here for a while....a very long while. The truth is, Paul and I have both been ridiculously busy with our respective jobs. We have not been too busy, however, for the occasional geeky tomfoolery. Here's a peek at a little project Paul is warming up to - interviewing people about what they've been reading. Most naturally, and conveniently, he's begun with me!

Here we are in our natural habitat.

  1. Fun to see the two of you.

I won't post a video discussion of my readings, but...

My project is on hold at the moment. I'm still working through tech related books and am exhausted from talking to people all freaking day long Monday through Friday. All that's left is an attention span attuned to Terry Pratchett, P.G. Wodehouse, and Douglas Adams. Between audio-books while driving and ebooks on my Kindle I've finished 5 Discworld books and am working on a 6th. I started Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy last night. (Read it first in high school.) I'm also ready Barry Unsworth's The Ruby In Her Navel which is a lot less steamy than it sounds. It's a historical novel taking place in 12th century (I think) Sicily where Western and Eastern Christianity, Jews, Arabs, and African Muslims all collide. Very interesting stuff.

  2. Well, Christopher, light or not, you're definitely getting a lot more reading done than I am! Hopefully that will change for me in a few weeks.

  3. A lot of that is the drive time with audio books. I still sorta count that as reading. Sorta.

  4. It counts.
I ought to have Paul download some audio-books for me to listen to at work. I never thought of that before. I usually listen to podcasts. Thanks for the idea!

  5. Hi Paul,

    Nice idea, Paul.

If you're looking for interviewees you can do a Skype interview with me! (Not sure it will work; also half joking.) But I'll have to get off Facebook & the Internet & brush up on my reading - actually finish some books I start. I always have a pile of books next to my bed - but a bad place to read as my wife goes to bed hours before me & I fall a asleep after a couple of pages when reading in bed.

Hi Laurie: I like Dr Seuss! More my level! I've never read Paradise Gained or Lost though I have a copy in my study at work. I'm not a literary boff like you two. My reading is nearly all non-fiction. Your first book by John Woolman sounded most interesting.

I love the bold, bright wall colours in your home!

What I learned: How one pronounces your name, Laurie! I had worked out two options & got it wrong. You follow the phonetically correct version; we South Africans corrupt the pronunciation to rhyme with lorry, sorry. Your name is now more distinguished! Lady Laurie! And Sir Paul!

    Blessings!

  6. John, I was just wondering this morning how you might think my name is pronounced. It rhymes with "story" (stoh-ree), isn't that how you pronounce "lorry"? I always got a giggle out of the idea that in the UK my name sounds like a truck!
